Adri Van Westerop joined De Bilt in the Netherlands in 1983. In 1987, the chemical engineer became the first environmental advisor of the Oekofonds foundation. A pioneer in this field, she initiated numerous ecological and social projects. Together with Marco Schank, Adri published the book "Umweltschutz doheem" in 1989. The author published numerous documentary articles and made radio broadcasts. In 1992 she got married and had a daughter.
Founder of TransFair-Minka (Fair-Trade Luxembourg), she introduces and promotes fair trade in the country. Adri is also involved with AKUT and the "Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg". In 1999, the environmentalist changed her career path and became a member of the management of the op der Rhum nursing home. Adri van Westerop is not only an environmental and social activist, but she is also politically active for the Green Party. As a member of the Betzdorf town council, she is committed to the climate, education and social issues. She is also a candidate for the national and European elections.
Chemical engineer Adri van Westerop died of heart disease and lung cancer on 23 December 2009 at the age of 52.
In 2010, posthumously, the "Great Lady of Ecological and Social Projects" was awarded the Czech Environmental Protection Award "Josef Vavrousek", together with her husband Raymond Aendekerk for their commitment during the 1990s, and the Präis Hellef fir d'Natur award.
