Who is she?

The youngest child of her parents Charel Stein and Anne Loesch, Nelly Stein was born on November 13, 1937 in Esch/Alzette. After graduating from high school, Nelly worked for a few months in an office at the Schmelz (foundry) before finding her professional vocation: teaching. At first, Nelly was a teacher at the elementary school in Rumelange. After further training, Nelly Stein became a secondary school teacher. At the "Handwierkerschoul" in Esch-sur-Alzette she teaches French and Biology.

On the private side, Nelly likes hiking and is involved with the "Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten". Nelly keeps the scouting philosophy throughout her life, both in her private and professional life. "One should always do one's best in any field".

Her political career started in Schifflange in 1982. Nelly Stein was a member of the local council for the CSV party for twelve years. A male bastion at that time, Nelly Stein nevertheless found her style to impose herself. From 1994 to 2002, she held the position of mayor. Always ready to help, Nelly succeeded in introducing a new style of leadership and management based on respect and honesty: "In politics you can't do everything, nor can you fulfill everyone's wishes. Often you just need a little common sense". It is certain that this politician has left her mark on municipal politics. Her dedication to the cause, she clearly stated: "In fact, I can not imagine anything more beautiful than to be mayor of my hometown. It would be a useful occupation."

After the parliamentary elections in 1989, the Schifflange woman was elected to the Chamber of Deputies. She was particularly interested in the bills for the Rockhal in 2003 and the University of Luxembourg in 2004. Nelly Stein chairs the Committee on Education, Research and Culture and is a member of the Committee on Public Works and the Committee on Regulations.

On August 12, 2005, at the age of 67, Nelly Stein died of a heart attack in Switzerland.
